Job Summary

The Chief Investment Officer will be responsible for the development and implementation of TCF Wealth’s investment process. The CIO will provide insight with respect to the development of investment teams, the investment selection process and the adherence to policy and procedures. The CIO will report to the Managing Director of TCF Wealth.




  • Bachelor's Degree in School of Business required, an advanced degree in a business related discipline (MBA, Accounting or Finance) preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience successfully working in senior-level investment management roles within a wealth management organization, optimally including 3 years or more serving as a Chief Investment Officer.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) professional designation required, series 65 or 24 preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of investment strategies, investment solutions, and the wealth management industry required
  • Strong experience leading, supervising and motivating a team of investment professionals.
  • Strategic thinker, proficient in decision-making
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, presentation abilities; and a history of collaborating with internal and external partners.





  • Participate in the development of the Wealth Management annual budget.
  • Participate in master technology plan.
  • Participate in master compliance plan.
  • Select appropriate investment research providers, which historically are proactive in security monitoring.
  • Monitor the on-going changes occurring within the Wealth Management industry.
  • Collaborate on the structuring and implementation of annual revenue goals.

Investment Management

  • Develops investment strategies based on company’s philosophy and client objectives.
  • Develop & manage the investment process and procedures.
  • Develop and manage key fund management performance metrics, tracking and real time reporting.
  • Ensure investment compliance with all regulatory agencies

Portfolio Management

  • Proactively work with other Wealth Management team members to enhance customer relationships.
  • Provide client consultation to develop investment objectives commensurate to the client’s acceptable levels of risk.
  • Provide advice and guidance for investment opportunities to customers.
  • Communicate with clients about their accounts, market conditions and economic trends.
  • Manage equity and bond portfolios with the aim of maximizing investment returns


  • Coach and mentor staff, determine appropriate staffing levels, ensure employee development and maintain a culture of positive employee relations in order to build a high-performing team.
  • Partner with Private Bank Regional Directors to develop and hold Portfolio Managers accountable for success in Client Experience, growth, compliance and cross line of business collaboration and community involvement.
  • Partner with Private Bank Regional Directors to develop and evaluate relationship management, sales and service skills of team members through regular coaching sessions, joint calls, and team meetings.
  • Be a leader of the TCF Culture, setting a people agenda to ensure we deliver on our purpose of being driven to enhance the lives of the communities we serve by consistently exceeding expectations.

Other / Miscellaneous

  • Travel as needed to meet with teams and clients.
  • Participate in Wealth Management Senior Management Committee and Trust Investment Committee.
  • Actively participates in community activities.
